About registration authorities of acts of civil status
This Law determines legal and organizational basis of activities of registration authorities of acts of civil status.
Acts of civil status are the facts of the birth, death, wedding, annulment of marriage, paternity proof, change of surname, name, middle name certified by the state. They are dispositive facts with which the law connects origin, change or the termination of the appropriate rights and obligations.
Acts of civil status are subject to obligatory registration in registration authorities of acts of civil status.
The system of registration authorities of acts of civil status is constituted:
departments of civil registration of Head department of justice of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, regional, Kiev and Sevastopol city, district, district in the cities, city (the cities of regional value) justice departments;
executive bodies rural, settlement, city (except the cities of regional value) councils.
Civil registration of the citizens of Ukraine living abroad is made by consular establishments and diplomatic representations of Ukraine.
The legal basis of activities of registration authorities of acts of civil status is determined by the Constitution of Ukraine, this Law and other acts of the legislation of Ukraine.
