About the Program of food security of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026-2030

According to articles 4 and 12 of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "About strategic planning and the state forecasting" the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan decides:

1. Approve the Program of food security of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026-2030 and the Actions plan on program implementation of food security of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026-2030 (appendices 1 and 2).

2. To provide to the relevant ministries and departments, executive bodies of the government of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, areas, the city of Dushanbe, cities and areas implementation of this Program and its Actions plan and about results annually till February 1 to provide information in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan.

3. Annually till March 1 to provide to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan information on the course of implementation of this Program and its Actions plan.

The program of food security of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026-2030

1. General provisions

1. The program of food security of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026-2030 (further - the Program) is developed for the purpose of ensuring food security of the country, improvement of access to food, rational use of food resources and increase in stability of its deliveries, and also for realization of the purposes of the National strategy of development for the Republic of Tajikistan till 2030.

2. Ensuring food security of the Republic of Tajikistan is one of the most important directions of economic safety of the country promoting sustainable development, providing the population with good-quality products of power supply and realization of population policy, strengthening of health care system and improvement of quality of viability of citizens. Irrespective of positive economic tendencies and development of the agrarian sector, in the field of food security of the Republic of Tajikistan the problems and tasks requiring the complex solution remain.

3. The complex solution of tasks of food security includes availability of sufficient, safe and nutritive diet, physical and economic access of all segments of the population to adequate power supply, self-sufficiency and steady providing the country with agricultural products and food, and at the same time assumes independence of the state in questions of food supply, effective use of resources for decrease in seasonal deficit of agricultural products and resistance to climate changes.

2. Analysis of situation and main problems

One of main objectives of the Program of food security of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2020-2024 approved by the order of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan of June 25, 2020 No. 386, is rational use of the agricultural resources which are available in the country, ensuring sustainable development of farm-production and increase in internal production. In 2024 in all forms of managing of the republic 1828318 tons grain (880734 tons of wheat), 1263948 tons of potatoes, 3289179 tons of vegetables (836911 tons of onions), 1144806 tons of melon, 823048 tons of fruit (277717 tons of apples and 313052 ton of apricot), 289931 tons of grapes and 1875754 tons of feed crops were made. In comparison with the same period of 2023 increase in production grain on percent 4,2 (wheat on percent 2,4), potatoes on 10,4 of percent, vegetables on percent 8,7 (onions on percent 7,3), melon on 13,4 of percent, fruit on 23,9 of percent and grapes in time 1,5 is observed.

For this period the livestock of sheep and goats constituted 7150,7 of one thousand heads that is 490,1 one thousand more than heads or on percent 7,4. From general cattle stock the share of farms of the population constitutes 93,6 of percent of cattle and sheep and goats – percent 82,2. In all forms of managing in 2024 416034 tons of meat, 1177381 tons of milk and 1265564 thousand eggs were made. In comparison with the same period of 2023 production of meat increased by 4,5 of percent, milk on percent 5,3, and eggs on percent 3,4.
