Ukraine and Republic of Belarus, further "the Contractual Parties",

proceeding from the principles of sovereign equality, territorial integrity of the states and inviolability of borders,

being guided by the purposes and the principles of Articles of organization of the United Nations, provisions of the Gelsinsky Final act and other documents of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe,

based on provisions of the Treaty of friendship, neighborliness and cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus of July 17, 1995,

respecting will of the people of Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus to further development friendly, good-neighbourhood,

wishing to establish frontier between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus,

agreed as follows:

Article 1

Establish frontier between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus according to documents which are integral part of this Agreement:

1. The protocol description of passing of the line of frontier between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus.

2. Album of topographic maps with the line of frontier which is graphical applied on them.

Article 2

The frontier is the line and vertical surface which passes across this line which determine borders of the territories of the Contractual Parties - sushi, waters, subsoil, airspace.

Article 3

Demarcation of frontier between the Contractual Parties is performed by the General commission.

The general commission acts on the basis of the Regulations on demarcation of frontier which affirms the governments of the Contractual Parties.

Article 4

The frontier mode between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus is determined by the separate agreement.

Procedure for use of the parcels of land which are located behind the line of frontier, but are in use of subjects of housekeeping of other Contractual Party, it is determined by the free standing agreement.

Article 5

The contractual Parties exchange land data, cartographic and aero photofilm-making materials with signature stamp "Confidentially", necessary for preparation of documents of delimitation, provide protection of these data and materials according to the agreements existing between the Contractual Parties.

Article 6

The expenses connected with demarcation of frontier, each Contractual Party bears separately.

Article 7

This Agreement is termless.

This Agreement is subject to ratification and becomes effective from the moment of exchange of instruments of ratification which will take place in Minsk.

It is made in Kiev on May 12, 1997 in duplicate, everyone in the Ukrainian and Belarusian languages, at the same time both texts are authentic.
