summing up the results of the negotiations which took place during the state visit of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus to the Republic of Kazakhstan on May 10-12, 2000, being guided by regulations of the Contract between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Lithuania on mutual understanding and cooperation made on November 7, 1993 in the city of Almaty and also based on earlier reached two-way deals,

aiming at further development and deepening of friendship in the spirit of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas which are of mutual interest

confirming the commitment to the universally recognized norms of international law, to the purposes and the principles of Articles of organization of the United Nations, provisions of the Helsinki Final act and other documents of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, we declare as follows:

we emphasize important, priority nature of the friendship between two states having considerable potential in political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres;

we consider development of bilateral cooperation as guarantee of further strengthening of the world and stability in regional and global scale;

we note the increased need of closer interaction within the international organizations which is based on stable development and economic prosperity of the countries of the world community;

reached the agreement on cooperation increase and coordination of efforts in fight against the international terrorism, organized crime, illicit trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances, illegal migration, both on bilateral basis, and within the international and regional organizations;

The president of the Republic of Kazakhstan welcomes the beginning of negotiations on membership of the Republic of Lithuania in the European Union, expressing at the same time confidence that future membership of Lithuania in the European Union will promote further development and deepening of cooperation in different areas, both between two states, and between Kazakhstan and the countries of the European Union;

The president of the Republic of Kazakhstan recognizes the right of the Republic of Lithuania to be integrated into the Organization of the North Atlantic Agreement;

The president of the Republic of Lithuania welcomes constructive efforts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on strengthening of regional stability and the world, supports its initiative concerning convocation of the Meeting on interaction and measures of trust in Asia which is intended to become new important link in system of the international security, the instrument of harmonization of interstate relations;

The president of the Republic of Lithuania with great attention treats aspiration of the Republic of Kazakhstan deeply and innovatively to comprehend the place in the world community of the third millennium, perspective and reference points of the development;

we welcome the beginning of action of the Intergovernmental Kazakhstan-Lithuanian commission on trade and economic cooperation and we emphasize importance of effective work of the commission for strengthening and encouragement of development of bilateral ties in this sphere;

considering interest of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Lithuania to develop mutually beneficial economic cooperation and potential of the oil industry of both states, we welcome the begun dialogue between the oil companies of Kazakhstan and Lithuania. We support establishment of commercially reasonable long-term commercial intercourses between these companies and we urge the Governments of both states to create favorable conditions for development of such bonds;

we emphasize that one of the priority directions of bilateral cooperation is development of transport communications, assistance to increase in transport flows between two states and ensuring practical implementation of the agreements signed in this area;

we confirm intention to promote further development of contacts and experience exchange between Parliaments of two states;

we confirm need of further development of cooperation for science and technology, cultures, arts, educations, tourism and sport;

attaching priority significance to providing ecological safety, agreed to develop close cooperation in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources; The President of the Republic of Lithuania supports efforts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on involvement of the world community, the international organizations and financial institutions to the solution of environmental and social problems, rehabilitations of health of the population in the basin of the Aral Sea and in zone of the former Semipalatinsk Test Site.
