Approved by the Order of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan of August 1, 2014 No. 505
The wide use of nuclear energy which began in the late forties the last century in the Soviet Union led to formation of large amount of radioactive waste of conversion of uranium ore in the territory of number of federal republics. Including Tajikistan inherited large amount of the radioactive waste formed as a result of activities uranium-processing the industries in the territory of Northern Tajikistan.
Production of uranium concentrate in the Soviet Union for the first time began in 1944 at experimental plant of the city of Gafurov of the Republic of Tajikistan. And then in the territory of the Sughd area it would be constructed still the uranium protoxide oxide production plants. From these plants for the end of the 60th years there was one large in the city. Chkalovsk which after reconstruction in the 80th years processed up to 1 million tons of ore a year. The plant issued about 2000 tons of protoxide oxide of uranium a year. Thus, within nearly 50 years about 100 thousand tons of uranium concentrate therefore in the territory of districts of the Sughd area more than 55 million tons of waste with total activity of more 6,5 of one thousand would collect were made. Curie. This waste is concentrated in 10 tailings dams with total area of 180 hectares which are located in densely populated zones of accommodation of people, and also in upper courses of water inflows of the Syr Darya River. The condition of many of them constitutes danger to the environment and human health for today.
