The parliament adopts this law.

This law establishes fundamentals of legislative metrology and provides unity of measurements, protection of physical persons and legal entities irrespective of type of property and form of business from detrimental consequences of the wrong or doubtful results of measurements.

Chapter I General provisions

Article 1. Legislation on metrology

The legislation on metrology consists of this law and other regulations adopted on its basis.

Article 1-1. The special terms used in this law

In this law the following special terms are used:

approval of type - the legislative decision based on the protocol of assessment confirmatory that this type of gage meets the requirements specified in the applied regulations on legislative metrology and is adequate for use in the regulated area so that it was possible to assume that it provides reliable results of measurements for certain period of time;

metrological support - set of the regulations, technical means, transactions necessary for guaranteeing reliability of results of measurements in legislative metrology;

legislative metrological control - set of the types of activity on legislative metrology promoting metrological support. Legislative metrological control includes legislative metrological control of measuring instruments, metrological supervision and metrological examination;

authorization - the legislative decision based on the appraisal report confirming competence of the applicant, and also compliance to its criteria established in regulations on legislative metrology for the purpose of accomplishment of activities for legislative metrology (checking of legalized measuring instruments, metrological testing according to type of legalized measuring instruments and official measurements);

standard - realization of determination of this size with the established value of size and the related uncertainty of measurements used as basis for comparison;

international standard - the standard recognized by the international agreement at the international level as basis for assignment of values to other standards of this unit;

national standard - the standard recognized in the country by the national decision as basis for assignment of values to other standards of this unit;

initial standard - the standard, as a rule, the highest metrological quality which is available in this place or in this organization from which there are measurements performed in this place or in this organization;

calibration - transaction during which under the set conditions at the first stage establish ratio between values of sizes with uncertainty of measurements which provide standards and the corresponding indications with uncertainty inherent in them, and at the second stage on the basis of this information establish the ratio allowing to receive result of measurement proceeding from the indication;

measuring accuracy - compliance degree between result of measurement and conditionally valid value of the measured size;

gage accuracy - the property of gage reflecting proximity of values to true value;

metrological examination - set of the transactions which are carried out for the purpose of consideration and the proof of condition of measuring instruments and establishment of their metrological characteristics with reference to the applied regulating requirements;

uncertainty of measurements - the positive parameter characterizing dispersion of the values attributed to the measured size based on the used information;

inspection of gage - inspection of gage for establishment of availability of all or several of the following elements:

- whether the verification mark and the bulletin of checking of gage are valid;

- whether it is damaged any of the put brands;

- whether transferred gage after checking of any visible changes;

- whether the most admissible errors in operation exceed error;

introduction on the market of gage - the action directed to provision of possibility of acquisition for the first time of gage, for a fee or gratuitously for the purpose of sale and/or applications;

sign of approval of type - distinctive mark which when drawing on gage certifies compliance of that to the approved type;

verification mark - the brand applied on gage which certifies that checking of gage is executed with satisfactory results;

standard sample - gage, material or substance at which value (one or several) property (properties) is rather uniform and well established in order that it could be applied during the checking and/or calibration of gage, in case of assessment of legislative technique of accomplishment of measurements or assignment of values to materials or substances;

measurement - set of the operations performed for the purpose of determination of value of this size;

the measured size - the private size subjected to measurement;
