About names of geographical objects

This Law determines the legal basis of activities for identification, normalization, assignment of names to geographical objects and their renaming, state accounting and use of names of geographical objects for the purpose of ensuring single approaches to implementation of such activities, and also preserving names of geographical objects of the Republic of Belarus as integral part of historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Belarus.

Chapter 1. General provisions

Article 1. The main terms used in this Law and their determinations

1. Administrative and territorial units - areas, areas, the Village Councils, and also the cities and settlements of city type in which local councils of deputies, executive and administrative organs are created.

2. Detection of names of geographical objects - detection of the unaccounted names of geographical objects existing or existing in the past.

3. Geographical objects - rather steady complete educations within geographical envelope of Earth of natural or anthropogenous origin existing or existing in the past and which are characterized by certain geographical location: physiographic objects, administrative and territorial units, territorial units, components of settlements, components of the special economic zone – the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park "Great Stone" (further – the industrial park "Great Stone"), objects of transport infrastructure.

4. The state accounting of names geographical objektovsbor of data on names of geographical objects, the additional information for their identification and entering of the specified data and information into the State catalog of names of geographical objects of the Republic of Belarus.

5. Names of geographical objects - own names which are appropriated to geographical objects and serve for their recognition.

6. Normalization of names of geographical objects - the choice of names of geographical objects and determination of writing of these names in language (languages) in which, (which) they are used.

7. Objects of transport infrastructure - railway stations, bus stations, stopping points, stations of the subway, ports, piers, the airports and other similar objects.

8. Renaming of geographical objects - change of names of geographical objects in the cases and procedure established by this Law and other acts of the legislation.

9. Assignment of names to geographical objects - investment of geographical objects with names according to the procedure, established by this Law and other acts of the legislation.

10. Components of settlements – elements of street road net and elements of town-planning planning structure equated to them (streets, lanes, drives, deadlocks, descents, entrances, parks, squares, avenues, highways, squares, boulevards, highways, embankments, the highway, rings, residential districts, traveling, shaft, quarters, other elements of town-planning planning structure).

10-1. Components of the industrial park "Great Stone" – elements of street road net (streets, lanes, drives, deadlocks, descents, entrances, parks, squares, avenues, highways, squares, boulevards, highways, embankments, the highway) located in borders of the industrial park "Great Stone", except for components of the settlements located in borders of the industrial park "Great Stone".

11. Territorial units - settlements in which local councils of deputies and executive and administrative organs, areas in the cities, and also the territories of the special mode of use are not created (reserves, national parks, wildlife areas, the territories of nature sanctuaries, biospheric wildlife reserves, the earth of historical and cultural appointment, the earth of defense, the free economic zones, other territories of the special mode of use created according to the decision of the President of the Republic of Belarus).

12. Physiographic objects - continents, mountains, ridges, ridges, rocks, gorges, glaciers, plains, natural boundaries, lowlands, Jara, beam, braids, volcanoes, caves, oceans, the seas, gulfs, islands, lakes, ponds, swamps, water storage basins, the rivers, canals and other similar natural objects.
