The protocol between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on cooperation and consultations

of January 16, 1996

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan which further are referred to as with the Parties

considering useful for the benefit of both Parties carrying out consultations and exchange of opinions at the different levels concerning the bilateral relations and international problems,

wishing to promote the operational solution of the questions promoting development of mutually beneficial cooperation

agreed as follows:

Article 1

The parties will regularly hold consultations and negotiations at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and other levels concerning the bilateral relations, and also on the international and regional problems which are of mutual interest.

By agreement between the Parties for discussion of specific questions expert working groups can be created.

Article 2

The agenda, terms and the venue of consultations and negotiations of the Party will be determined on the basis of the mutual arrangement. Meetings of Ministers of Foreign Affairs or their representatives will be held at least once a year, serially in Tashkent and Ashgabat.

Article 3

The parties will promote further expansion and deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation of two states in political, trade and economic, scientific and technical, humanitarian, in the field of conservation and other areas.

Article 4

The parties will create conditions for establishment of direct contacts and experience exchange by training, carrying out consultations, exchange of delegations and employees.

Article 5

Delegations of the Parties during participation in work of conferences and forums within the international organizations will hold consultations for preliminary approval of the line items on the different questions which are of mutual interest.

Article 6

By agreement the Parties in the this Protocol changes and additions can be made.

Article 7

The protocol becomes effective from the date of signing and is effective within five years. Its action is automatically prolonged for the next five-year periods if any of the Parties does not send to other Party in six months prior to the termination of effective period of the Protocol the written notice of the termination of its action.

It is made in the city of Chardzhev on January 16, 1996 in duplicate, everyone in the Uzbek, Turkmen and Russian languages, and all texts are equally authoritative.

For the purposes of interpretation of the this Protocol the text in Russian is used.
