The Customs Service has the following main powers:
ensures economic safety of the Republic of Moldova within the competence;
provides observance and accomplishment of the customs legislation;

provides goods control, vehicles and other objects moved through customs border of the Republic of Moldova;
conducts customs statistics;
participates in project development of international agreements, legal acts, ordinances and orders of the Government, and also other regulations regulating customs activities;
creates the conditions promoting acceleration of goods turnover and passenger traffic through customs border;
promotes development of foreign economic relations;
cooperates with customs authorities of foreign states;
will organize activities for fight against corruption and protectionism;
creates customs control zones on all customs area of the Republic of Moldova;
coordinates activities of all public services located in zone of border control;
provides supervision of activities of subordinated units;
protects legitimate interests of legal entities and physical persons in the field of customs activities;
provides accomplishment of provisions of international treaties in customs area which party the Republic of Moldova is;
disposes of property of customs authorities;
determines goods origin and issues the relevant customs papers;
performs other obligations established by the legislation.
The Customs Service has the right:
exercise control of legality of import (export) of goods and vehicles on customs area (from customs area) the countries;
publish within the competence regulations obligatory for accomplishment by all legal entities and physical persons;
request and receive in the customs purposes from physical persons and legal entities necessary documents and information;
make suggestions for improvement of the current legislation in the field of customs activities;
