1. This Federal Law determines legal and organizational bases of execution by the Russian Cossacks of public service.
2. This Federal Law does not extend to the activities of the Russian Cossacks which are not connected with public service.
1. For the purposes of this Federal Law the following basic concepts are used:
1) the Russian Cossacks - the citizens of the Russian Federation who are members of the Cossack societies;
2) the state register of the Cossack societies in the Russian Federation - the information resource containing data on the Cossack societies;
3) the Cossack society - form of self-organization of the citizens of the Russian Federation who united on the basis of community of interests for the purpose of revival of the Russian Cossacks, protection of its rights, preserving traditional conduct of life, managing and culture of the Russian Cossacks according to the federal legislation (non-profit organization). The Cossack society is created in the form of farm, stanitsa, city, district (yurtovy), district (otdelsky), army or All-Russian Cossack society which members in accordance with the established procedure assume liabilities on execution of the public or other service. Control of the Cossack society is exercised of the supreme body of management of the Cossack society, the ataman of the Cossack society, and also other governing bodies of the Cossack society formed according to the Federal Law, the presidential decree of the Russian Federation and the charter of the Cossack society. The Cossack society according to this Federal Law is subject to entering into the state register of the Cossack societies in the Russian Federation;
4) farm, stanitsa, city Cossack society - primary consolidation of citizens of the Russian Federation and members of their families - inhabitants of one or several rural and residential locations or other settlements, entered in the state register of the Cossack societies in the Russian Federation and which members in accordance with the established procedure assumed liabilities on execution of the public or other service;
4. 1) district (yurtovy) Cossack society - the Cossack society which is created (is created) by merging of farm, stanitsa and city Cossack societies;
5) district (otdelsky) Cossack society - the Cossack society which is created (is created) by merging of the district (yurtovy) Cossack societies and farm, stanitsa and city Cossack societies which are not part of district (yurtovy) Cossack societies;
6) army Cossack society - the Cossack society which is created (is created) by merging of district (otdelsky) Cossack societies and performs the activities in the territories of two and more subjects of the Russian Federation or in the territory of one subject of the Russian Federation which is formed as a result of consolidation of two and more subjects of the Russian Federation;
7) the All-Russian Cossack society - the Cossack society which is created (is created) by merging of army Cossack societies, and also the district (otdelsky) Cossack societies which are not part of army Cossack societies. The charter of the All-Russian Cossack society affirms the President of the Russian Federation.
