Chapter 1. General provisions

Article 1. Legislation of the Republic of Armenia on physical culture and sport

The physical culture is part of national culture. The sport based on fair play, respect and cooperation is considered as means of rapprochement of the people, adjustments of the world and friendship.

This Law regulates and establishes the principles of state policy in the sphere of physical culture and sport of basis of organization-legal and financial and economic system of physical culture and sport, and also the principles which shall be observed for integration to the international sports movement.

Article 2. The basic concepts used in the Law

In this Law the following basic concepts are used:

a) physical culture - set of the cultural and material values created and used by society for healthy lifestyle and physical enhancement of the person;

b) physical training - the organized process directed to strengthening of health of the population, increase in working capacity and the longevity, on forming which is physically tempered and morally steady generation;

c) sports movement - the activities of the state, public organizations and citizens directed to increase in level of physical culture of the population, to development of physical culture and sport;

d) sport - component of physical culture, historically developed process of competitive activities of people and special professional trainings for preparation for competitions;

e) national team of the Republic of Armenia - the team staffed by the best athletes of sport, trainers-teachers, scientists, doctors and other experts which prepares and acts in the international sports competitions under National flag of the Republic of Armenia;

e) amateur sport - mass sports activities, component of physical training, means of identification of gifted and perspective persons in different types of sport on preference;

g) professional sport - the activities pursuing profit earning in the field of sport in which the professional sports organizations (leagues, clubs, teams), the athletes who chose sport as profession participate;

h) the Olympic Movement - the social movement aimed at the development of sport, at spiritual and physical development of the person, the international sports cooperation;

i) sports, sports standard rates - complex tasks on physical exercises by results of which accomplishment the level of physical training and the state of health of different age groupes of the population and national groups for health reasons comes to light;

j) educational and training programs - the programs of different levels and different orientation developed according to sports, sports standard rates based on which educational and training process will be organized;

k) the trainer-teacher - person with vocational education performing sports pedagogical activities for the training program in the field of physical culture and sport.

l) the athlete - the person who is regularly doing any sport and having the sports grade in this sport;

m) the candidate for national team of the Republic of Armenia - the athlete conducting in this sport being the citizen of the Republic of Armenia who received the status of the candidate for national team of the Republic of Armenia according to the procedure established by authorized body of public administration by physical culture and sport of the Republic of Armenia;

o) the member of national team of the Republic of Armenia - the participating athlete of games of the world, Europe, the Olympic Games or the international chess Olympic Games as regards this sport who is the citizen of the Republic of Armenia;

o) dope – one or several violations of the anti-doping rules established by the World anti-doping code;
